There’s No Place Like Home

As I sit here on the couch at Gatorhead with my wife and Rocky I’ll have to say that I agree with Dorothy.  There is no place like home.

I had my 14th heart cath in the last 25 years Monday after having another heart attack last week.  I’m not really sure how many that makes.  I had 3 different cardiologists look at the results of the heart cath and the vote was 2-1 that I could live for awhile longer.  I hope the majority rules in this case.  I also have congestive heart failure and obviously that was a problem because I lost 19 pounds while I was in the hospital and I figure most of that was fluid.

The prognosis was better than I feared.  I can do what I want to do (within reason) but I am supposed to stop as soon as I get tired.  I am not having any pain but I am still very short of breath and it doesn’t take much to exert me.  I have snapped back so many times that it is a little disturbing to realize that I might not get a whole lot better than I am now.

I am just takin’ it easy for a few days and testin’ the waters a little under the close supervision of my wife and kids…and Rocky.

I just want to say that I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and friendship I have been shown by everyone. My friends and family have always been there for me but it really meant something special for the internet community to be so supportive of me at this time.

I want to give a special thanks to Bearman of  www.beartoons.com for his encouragement and support.  While he is not alone and so many of you have encouraged me, he is a special friend and I have seen him there for his friends before.  Thanks Bearman.

I hope to reach out and support and promote those who have supported me so much even more in the  future.  Right now I am still very weak and even posting takes a lot of energy.

Again Thanks to everyone.

Bo

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Jande. I’m doing fair today. I am still short of breath but I don’t have any pain. It is just going to take a little time to get used to my new limitations.

Just hoping the little attention i was able to give gave you some distraction. Keep rocking Bo.

Bo, we’ve never spoken before but we have a lot of mutual friends in the world of webcomics.

I wanted to let you know that I’m incredibly happy to know you’re at home where you belong. The journey you’ve had is indescribable, and I will be thinking of you every day for the rest of my life.

    Cheers~

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It means the world to me. The Journey has been tough at times but I have been blessed more than I can ever describe by the wonderful people God has placed in my life. Including the great people in the webcomic world.

  5. Tony McGurk Says:

While we’ve never met Bo I consider you a good friend & think of you as a long distance Grandpa. Finding it hard not to feel a bit sad by what’s been happening but am trying to think positive thoughts for you. You are such an inspiration Bo. Hang in there my friend

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Tony. When I am telling someone about my webcomic I always have to throw in the fact that I have a very good friend in Tasmania that I communicate with all the time. (They find this impressive.)
I don’t know about inspiring anyone but I really do try to encourage people when I can. It makes me feel good to make people feel good.

  6. frigginloon Says:

Well, I got my Thanksgiving wish then. Glad you are OK and the prognosis is looking better. xxxx

  7. Deb Says:

    Prayer works!
Glad to hear your home, Bo! You take it easy now…I trust you will. Let the wife pamper you too…it makes her feel better.
And Bo, I think of you as much more than just an internet friend….your like kin to me. So please take it easy.
    Hugs a plenty! xo

I have only just learned of your hospital emergency Bo but I am really pleased that you are fighting back and although you might not be fully up-to-speed at the moment I do wish you very well over the coming days, weeks, months and years.

Just take things easier, no silly pranks in between and be well, life is a bummer sometimes but you have a lovely family around you and this is what makes living so worthwhile.

Hey and no skinny dipping with the naughty neighbours either 🙂

Have a great rest of weekend Bo

    Androgoth

  9. Binky Says:

We’re all glad to hear that you’re home again, Bo. I hope you can regain some more strength and endurance so that you can continue to do what’s important to you, like spending time with your family, and hopefully to make some more cartoons and jewelry when you’re up to it.

Take it easy and enjoy being pampered! And don’t give your wife any more scares!

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Binky. I’m just gonna coast for about a week and slowly test the waters to see what I am able to do. I really appreciate you and all your kind words.
This time I was not really hard headed… I went to the doctor twice last week and told them how I felt and still wound up with another heart attack. I think even my doctors have come to believe that I am a tough old buzzard.

  10. steve Says:

Like others, I am glad the prognosis is better. Many of us have you in our prayers.
Re: the tough old buzzard-are you the one in your comics?

  11. Maddie Cochere Says:

So glad you are home, Bo. I haven’t “known” you for very long, but I know a good man when I find one. I’m going with the good report, too. You take care of yourself and don’t overdo anything – everything in moderation. It’s good to be a tough old buzzard sometimes.

  12. twxxd (@twxxd_dot_com) Says:

    Feel better, Bo!

  13. Androgoth Says:

I am just calling in to see how you are getting along now Bo, I do hope that you are resting and not doing too much in between. Be well my friend 🙂 🙂

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks for the visit Andro. I’m takin’ it easy. All this takin’ it easy is about to wear me out though. I’m just tryin’ to increase my activity a little each day.

  14. spilledinkguy Says:

I know it was best to be around all the medical folks until they were sure everything was okay… (and I know you said they were wonderful people), but I’m very happy to hear you are back at home now. I imagine (and hope) you are much more comfortable there (which might help you relax a bit more while you recover a bit)! Just try to take it as easy as you can, Bo… and keep getting better!!!
    🙂

  15. Todd McElmurry (@tmcelmurry) Says:

So glad to hear the optimistic prognosis. Just pace yourself back into things and listen to that wife of yours, she needs you around as long as she can have ya. Go fishin’ more, and catch up on those books. A doctor tellin’ ya to be lazy and relax is a good prescription to have. So glad God is still working his hand of healing in your body. My prayers of healing and strength continue you with you sir.

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Todd. Your prayers have meant a lot to me. I am trying to increase my activity a little each day but I can’t do very much before becoming short winded.

  16. Soma Mukherjee Says:

Sending you tons and tons and tons of good wishes Bo, and a big beary hug 🙂
know that you are in my prayers…

  17. Caz Says:

I’m sending you every shred of good vibes I can muster, good sir! Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

    Glad to know you’re home!

  18. George Says:

I am so glad to hear you’re doing better, Bo. You are an important part of our daily activities even if we’ve never shaken your hand. It’s good to know that you have a supportive system of friends who are concerned about you and love you. Continue to get better.
