Lookin’ Good Can Be a Problem

I’m still in the Hospital (my wife is scared to take me home, I think.)  My regular cardiologist came by today and was a little positive about me going home in a couple of days.  Basically there is nothing more they can do but he says if I am careful I can hang on for a while.  He mentioned that I looked good and seemed to be bouncing back from the last heart attack real well.

I was walking in the hall (as instructed) and a nurse that I didn’t know commented  “What are you doing in here?  You sure don’t look sick”.  I laugh, I joke, I smile and I am friendly therefore I must not be sick.

My wife knows me better than anyone and she is still not convinced that I am ready to go home.  I have had a couple of weak spells today and  she wants me to be here where they can take care of me.   (She has not left my side since Saturday night.)  Actually she has been by my side for more than 41 years.

I guess being positive and not looking sick can sometimes be a problem.  When I tell people about my heart trouble they look at me in disbelief and say you don’t look sick.  All I can say is “Thank You”.  I really don’t want to look sick.

I really appreciate your thoughts and prayers and good wishes.  You can not imagine how much that means to me.  I am not giving up and I’m not giving in…I still plan on hangin’ around as long as I can because my wife has told me that I don’t have her permission to go on yet.  God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and wonderful family (my kids are bringin’ Thanksgivin’ Dinner to the Hospital tomorrow and we will have our family gatherin’ here.

Who knows.  This time next week I might be home drawin’ comics and makin’ jewelry.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and good wishes.  I have the best web friends anyone could have.

It’s great to see that you still have your humor and have such a positive attitude. We’re all rooting for you, and thinking of you. Your wife’s probably right, even though it’s a pain to be in the hospital over the holidays, it’s best that you’re as healthy as can be before going home.

You’re a real class act, Bo, and and inspiration, too. Now get better, and get home, and start making more comics!

  3. Deb Says:

I’m so glad to hear you are keeping your sense of humor through all of this…laughter is the best medicine. And Bo, you have given me many laughs since I’ve know you…You mean a lot to me and many of us that visit you on both of your blog spaces. Please get well soon.
I am believing that you will be here this time next year telling us Turkey day jokes.
Have a great day with your family and do try to get plenty of rest.
    Happy Thanksgiving.
    Prayer continue on.
    xx

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Deb. I appreciate all my friends and I hope I have at least brought some smiles and encouragement to some. Whether I am here or gone on to be with Him I will be blessed. I am in a win win situation and I plan to make the best of it.
I had a pity party one time but it wasn’t much fun so I decided not to ever have another one.

Hope things get much better for you

    take care

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Glad to have you on board Captn Mike. The ship has sailed and the sails are set. I don’t control the rudder so I guess I’ll just make the best of the ride until I land at the Greatest Port of all. And I really intend to get the best out of the voyage.

  6. bearmancartoons Says:

Don’t you have like a bazillion people in your family? How are they all going to fit in your room?

Glad things are looking brighter today. Keep it up.

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Today it will probably just be my Son and daughter and their kids and spouses but I’m thinkin’ about half the hospital staff wants to come and join the celebration. That’s okay. We treat everyone like family every day so we can surely do it on Thanksgiving.
I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  12. Stephen Beals Says:

Happy Thanksgiving, Bo! Show the hospital how food is made. It sounds like we need a follow up to the Power Of Positive Thinking with The Power Of Positive Bo.

I’m glad you brought up the Bo Knocker in your last post. I want to look that video up. Still the best product out there for teaching common sense, if you ask me.

You’re on my list of things I’m thankful for today, and I even placed you above the pecan pie. If that’s not flattery, I don’t know what is.

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

I learned when I was a kid that whinin’ don’t help. 🙂 I don’t feel like I have enough time left in this world not to try to get all I can out of each day. Of course no one else does either.

  16. Binky Says:

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving in the hospital, Bo. It’s nice that they let you do that there. I’m sure it was a nice little boost for you and your family.

  17. jbstoons Says:

I blog at japaneseghost.net and we have some of the same online friends. I’m praying for your situation. I love your attitude in all of this. You are a great inspiration to me and from reading the comments I can tell you are a great inspiration to all of us.

    Hoping you get well soon!

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks David. I learned a long time ago that the quality of life you have doesn’t depend on what happens to you as much as it depends on how you react to it.

  19. jdotson Says:

You Hang in there BO.. Will pray for you and your family… Get well soon you make the web a lot more enjoyable place…

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks a bunch. I really appreciate everyone’s encouragement. I might be going home later today. It will take me a little time at home to know how I am really doing. Hospitals will make you sick.

  20. spilledinkguy Says:

I hear that doctors are generally a pretty wise bunch, but I think you’re right, Bo… I’m sure your wife knows you best, and it sounds like a very good idea to be as safe as possible about this.
I hope you were able to have as pleasant a Thanksgiving as possible (considering the circumstances)… I’m sure it helped a lot that your family was able to stop over and celebrate with you… that can make nearly any situation better, I think.
Please stay strong, Bo… you’ve got friends all over the globe who are pulling for you my friend!!!

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

I am well aware of all the wonderful people out there who genuinely care about me and it warms this old wore out heart of mine to know it. If you care about people they will care about you back. Thanks Robert.

Brian & I are continuing to pray for y-o-U. It ***is*** so very easy to do, due to knowing you'd do the exactly the same for us. Sending God's blessings out to your dear wife and family. May His heavenly arms hold and keep yoU healthy, until a certain "angel cow" comes home. [Unsure about that — no use in asking.] Another realm's humor huh? Who knew? <0;3)

I’d just like to echo the thoughts and good wishes expressed by your friends above!

P.S. 41 yrs? 😯 To still be together after that amount of time you’ve obviously learnt the secret of a successful marriage – the woman is the boss!

Confucius say . . . “Man is head of the house, but woman is the neck that turns the head”

In any disagreement between the doctors and your wife over what is best for you – side with your wife

[she may not be right, but life is a whole lot easier if you act as if she is!] 😆

    • bearmancartoons Says:

Or as my wife says (and even has hanging in our kitchen) Happy Wife, Happy Life

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

I decided early in my life that my main goal was to make my wife the happiest woman in the world. I probably have not succeeded in that but it has certainly made me a happy man.
You are right though, Wife trumps doctor anytime.
Bearman- If mama ain’t happy, noboday ain’t happy.

  23. Mark Stokes Says:

Bo, your prescence is deeply felt and richly appreciated. My heartfelt good wishes to you for a speedy recovery so you can get back to doing the things you love to do.

    • Bo Lumpkin Says:

Thanks Mark. I am home but it doesn’t look like I will snap back from this heart attack like I have from the others. It is going to take some adjusting but I will still get all I can out of each day. Thanks for your support.

  24. Red Says:

I hope you are on your way out the door. Entertaining all those nurses and staff is a job unto itself.

You, Bearman and Duncan are right about keeping your women happy. Methinks if she has been there since Saturday with you (even after the 41 years), you are doing it right.

    Blessings and healings, Bo,

I’ve already called in sick. I don’t think that anyone wants their Glamorous Waitress coughing and sneezing in their Salmon with Lemon Chive Cream sauce. Plus, I don’t want to leave my sick wife with my sick child all night plus two more non-sick children who will probably bug her to play Life and Scrabble and read books all evening. No, I think I would like to stay married.
